Because our friend had twisted his ankle, we were able to take things nice and slow, and focus on the cultural and culinary side of Denmark (see recipe below), as well as just laying around sometimes.
We visited the fantastic Moesgård museum, which explained lots of historical details and painted an interesting ethnographic and sociological view of Denmark in prehistory. It also contained a 2500 year old bog man, whose throat had been cut as an offering to the spirit world before being weighted down with branches in the bog. It had the effect of preserving him - the tannins in the water turning his skin leathery and hair ginger.
The museum also had an interactive display on vikings, along with this beautiful church, made with untreated timbers and left rough so you could still see the toolmarks.
Recipe for BBQ Marinade by Niels, Danish-Greenlandic
"I not really sure about the sweet mustard other than the ingredients could be:
- Fresh dill
- Salt
- Brown sugar (heaps)
- Pepper
- Mustard (kind of strong but not Dijon)
- Vinegar
The ratio differs from time to time, depending on what you like! I'm sure you can add more, but this is a good start..."
